First, Thanks for your study and for your dedication to teach and learn more about our wonderful Lord. I agree with much of what you posted, however, I'm not sure all of it. The issues of Pre-Dest or choice are argued over precisely because they are so fundimental to understanding the character of God and His relationship with man. In a nutshell, cumpulsion and free will are no more compatible than "My father is not willing that any should perish" and "election" of a chosen few for salvation. But try this. Much in the same way that God "hardened" Pharaohs heart after Pharaoh had set his heart to be hardened (do a word study or look through the Baker Encyclopedia of Christian Apologetics), I believe that the elect was all of Isreal, and that Christ is the first fruits offered. We, whether Jew or Gentile, become a part of the elect body when we "choose" to follow Christ and accept Him as Lord and Savior. True, none can even choose our Lord unless he is wooed from the desert by our Lord. Only by faith can you come and faith is only available through God. But I beleive God the Father is willing that "all" come to Him through faith in Jesus Christ, and that He extends the faith to believe to "all", but some reject His offer, much as the Jews rejected Jesus, and Pharaoh rejected the call to soften his heart and obey God. I truly believe a word study over the passages dealking with the hardening of Pharaohs heart will open understandin to this difficult doctrine of free will and pre-destination. Remember, hard determinism and free choice are not compatible and neither is hard determinism (compulsion) and justice. Thanksd for allowing me to comment.

For 1200 years, the book of Hebrews was commonly called “The Epistle of Paul to the Hebrews” even though the writer never identifies himself as Paul. Since the Reformation it has been widely recognized that Paul could not have been the writer of Hebrews. While there is no disharmony between the teaching of Hebrews and Paul’s letters, the specific emphases and writing styles are very different. Contrary to Paul’s usual practice, the author of Hebrew never identifies himself except to indicate he was a man. from The Finality of Christ: An Exposition of Hebrews 1:1-4

Thanks for the link to John Piper's prayer resources! I'm in a group that is trying to make powerful, kingdom-centered prayer an emphasis at our church. Any help I can get is great. Thanks!

October 29, 2007

I am at an awe this very moment. Before I even got to this webpage, I have just finished dinner with my family, and I have taken my bath to relax after dinner and just whispered this prayer. I then got my bible to read before my bedtime. Psalm 57, it's no one but God led me to , it. I have been so troubled lately, I have lost my job, my business, my church, and I truly dont have a clue right now , what God is doing. To read this above column on God Most High is amazing. I have been asking God to reveal His plan to me, and I think I am not listening. I dont listen very well, I know He speaks, but I am not listening. I am at a crossroad at this present time, I have no clue, as far as m church and work, I am now going to be still and know. Psalm 57- like David, so many enemies in my path, that are out to destroy me, without a cause, I am praying that God will hide me under His wings as my refuge. I am in such a hurry, like you stated, it is lke God has lead me to this site, at this particular time in my life to confirm what He has been saying to me, but I have not listened. God please have mercy on me, and forgive me, I know you know exactly what you are doing. Lead me God to my purpose.

Jason, you write with clarity and power!
Thank you for sharing yourself so honestly in your spiritual journey.

And, what brought me to your blog was the statement that the last part of Psalm 91 intrigues you the most. I couldn't agree more. I've written about it a number of times and still cannot adequately capture the full extent of what is being promised there.

I just want to say that the bible in romans clearly states that the Gifts and Callings of God are without repentance. The orginal greek tranlates irrevolcable. That means that God does not change his mind. So if Gods word is truth and inspired. Then to even assume that God has taken the Gifts use away from the church is saying that God is a lair. So we know that God in not a liar. The bible clearly calls those gifts the gifts of the Spirit. They are not your gifts nor my gifts but his gift. The bible states in I cor. 12 that he distrubes those gifts to who he wills. And we know that the Holy Spirit is still here he has not left because Jesus has not come back. Cessationism does not make any since now or never has. If paul ment in I cor 13 that gifts would stop at the cannon of scripture why would he say in I cor 14 to desire spiritual gifts and forbid not to speak in tongues. If it was going to go away way would he incourage that. We need the Holy Spirit working in our live. People say "Well does make any since to me why we need tongue any way". Well God choice the foolish things to confound the wise. Preaching to the world is foolishness but the bible declares it to be the power of God unto salvation. God did not stop preaching. The bible says his ways are not our ways. Through out history the church has record of gifts in operation past the apostles. But because we cant in our natural mind understand things we want to tell God that he cant do that no more. The bible says that the gifts are for edifacation. They are to empower believers through the holy spirit to be a witness. As long as the church is on this earth, the holy spirit will still be here to empower believers. But when Jesus comes (that which is perfect) then those impartal gifts will no longer be needed because the church will have fulfilled her commision and she will be adorned for the marriage supper of the lamb. II Tim 3 says that in the last days men will in versus 5 have a form of godliness, but DENYING THE POWER THEREOF, he commands From such turn away. I cor chapter 1 and 2 says that spiritual things cannot be understood by our natural understanding. The spirit seaches out the deep things of God and has to be revealed by him. He is the spirit of truth (john 14-16). He wrote the book. Pray for understanding. I implore you not to make conclusions on mans tradition, thinking or teaching. The bible says if any man lacks wisdom let him ask of God. Pray that the Holy Spirit will teach you all. If it dont make sinces ask of God. Thank you for your time.

I hadn't even thought of the fact that David WAS Saul's armor-bearer. You know David would have stuck with Saul until the end. (Then again, he kept shucking spears at him.)
